Frustration
Spent today preparing for tomorrow’s training-not a lot to do though as we did most of it before the holidays. We’re back in Kigeme with the Tots (trainers of teachers) and just taking them through the workshops we’ve planned for May to see if any changes need to be made. I can’t believe World Vision though, they’re meant to be funding this but once again have let us down. I went to the offices twice today only to be told Franklin our contact there is still on holiday grrrr. We checked with him over and over and was told we’d definitely get the money then surprise surprise we don’t! Anyway, managed to leave a note saying we needed the money with us by noon tomorrow, so really hoping it is. It’s so unfair otherwise, the trainers will be expecting the money and we haven’t even got time to go to the bank now…It really pisses me off, they have done this so many times now- they profess to be a Christian organisation but think nothing of lying to our faces. It’s so frustrating.
A new volunteer?
Quite a few vols have left recently…No one from my group but from September’s lot the toll is now 4. To be fair, two had to go back but for the others the placements just weren’t suitable/ready. During ICT 2 lots of people expressed frustration either towards VSO or the organisations they were working for and I doubt things will change. There are all sorts of reasons why an organisation wants volunteers and it’s not always for the same reasons as VSO supply them so there will always be issues…
Anyway, today I received news. A new vol. They are thinking about a position as an education management advisor so we would essentially work together. They would also live with me…This last bit I’m not too pleased about but I guess I’ve been lucky so far to have the house all to myself… I’ve written back detailing the fun and games at the district but have tried to be as positive as possible. Watch this space!
Good news
Anne-Marie is back. She wasn’t feeling too great though so I think she was pleased that I still had the pesto to finish and I think she’s now a J.O fan. Once again it was delicious, black pepper makes such a difference too (managed to get some from Uganda)…Might try and look for parmesan next time I’m in Kigali, god I miss cheese!
OOoo the other thing which is just brilliant, Moosa has got into university-he’s managed to gain a bursary so really pleased for him. We celebrated with a couple of fantas after my kinyarwanda lesson, ni byiza!
