Tuesday 16th
Not really sure when I’ll get to post this but as I’m off to Kigali tomorrow thought I’d best get some stuff down from the weekend.
So Friday night was pretty uneventful except I am sooo into Prison Break and managed to watch 4 episodes in a row while nibbling peanuts in bed-classy. Next morning I was up early to collect my top again from the tailor’s. It just needed a little adjustment on the shoulders. Amazing, it only cost around 3000rwf (that’s about £3) complete with lining and everything. Obviously things here are much cheaper but when you consider that’s cheaper than a tin of powdered milk you realise just how undervalued this kind of work is here. I’ll definitely be going back.
The girls weren’t due here till later on in the afternoon so after speaking with J, I chilled in the garden until Charlotte texted to say they’d just left Butare so would be here soon. Rucksack packed I made my way into town only to discover that there was a problem with accommodation. As we were trekking at 5am Sunday, it was assumed we’d want accommodation for that evening rather than Saturday night. Over a beer, we decided that the best thing to do was to stay in Gik and then get up mega early Sunday morning.
To cut a long story short (cos I never did post this before I went to Kigali and now it’s Monday again..) it was very hard but brilliant fun and we DID get to see chimps albeit after 6 hours of trekking. I ran out of batteries but Charlotte’s friend had a very good camera so will get some pics off her.
