Sunday

The bus back to Gikongoro was full, at least the one which would get in before it got really dark so I stayed with Kerry after meeting lots of the other vols at the traditional Sunday dinner in Gitarama. There are so many new faces there. I wish we’d get some new people here. There’s talk of some new vols in January but we shall see…Lots can change before then. …Loads of people seem to be leaving for different reasons. Bridget has left to work in an International school in Kigali-really pleased for her though- her placement was crap and she seems much happier with things now and it’ll be nice to be earning real money I’m sure; Kerry’s placement is only 1 year and will also be starting with a private school in January when her placement ends and Charlotte is thinking about ending her placement early to go to Guatamala! I’m still not sure how long I’ll be here. I did say just a year but I’m not sure I’m ready to go back just yet. I miss everyone so so much but feel like I’ll never have an experience like this again so need to make sure I make the most of it. Also do I really have to get a proper job? Why can’t we all just enjoy life?Just let me indulge in these thoughts for a bit because I know that once I’m back the space to just think will be filled with worries about paying bills etc and I’ll be caught once again in the rat-race that we call real-life…

Wednesday 16th

Felt crappy at school yesterday but got through the lessons. Had a bit of a tickle in my throat when climbing but now have a fever so spent today in bed drifting in and out of sleep. Maybe I’m just a bit tired? See how I feel tomorrow for now I’m planning to watch ‘Lean on me’ and get to bed early - how exciting am I?

Thursday 17th
Now know that ‘Lean on me’ is not ‘Stand by me’…Still a good film though with the fantastic Mr Freeman
